HPS complete set assembly instruction

On this page we explain how to assemble a NDL complete set. We show you how to connect the reflector cable and the power supply to the ballast and how to connect the reflector cable to the lamp socket.

Before that we would like to give you some general tips.

General tips and important information

  1. HPS lamps (and the reflector) become extremely hot during operation.
Make sure there is sufficient distance to all combustible materials. Fire hazard!
  2. The lamp cable must not touch the illuminant or the reflector.
  3. Do not use adhesive tape to fix the reflector.
  4. NDL lamps should not be touched with hands, as fingerprints can burn into the lamp and damage the lamp.

Last but not least, an important legal note: Electrical installations should only be performed by trained professionals.

Frequently asked questions about HPS

Question: At what distance from the plant should I hang the lamp?

Answer: Due to the strong heat radiation, sufficient distance to the plant must always be maintained. The minimum distance should be 30-50cm for lamps up to 400W. More powerful lamps must be placed at a greater distance.

The distance should be checked at least once a day and adjusted if necessary.

Question: What do I do in summer when it gets too hot in my box?

Answer: You have several options:

  1. Increase the supply air (supply more air).
  2. Make sure that you take in cold supply air (e.g. on the north side of a building).
  3. Use cooled reflectors: these are special reflectors that are integrated into the exhaust air system. Here, exhaust air flows along the lamp without interruption and the hot exhaust air is discharged from the box.

NDL set: assembly of a Low Budget Set in 2 steps

Step 1: Assemble the cable to the ballast unit

First, connect the phase and neutral of the plug cable (pink) and the reflector cable (blue).

Make sure that all luster terminals are screwed tight.

Now connect the grounds (yellow-green) of both cables to the ballast.

Step 2: Mounting the reflector cable on the reflector

An E40 socket is attached to the reflector. To attach the reflector cable, you must first remove the socket from the reflector.

To do this, loosen the three marked screws on the side of the reflector.

Now lead the reflector cable through the black plastic eyelet on the reflector.
It is used to guide the reflector cable away from the reflector.

Now connect the phase and neutral reflector cable to the socket.

Next, reattach the socket to the reflector. Make sure that the 3 screws are tight.
The grounding of the reflector line is connected directly to the reflector.

The black plastic eyelet consists of a plastic nut and a plastic screw. Finally, the plastic nut is tightened. It serves as strain relief for the reflector cable.
The kit is now completely wired and the illuminant can be inserted.
